But even with the best, sometimes the place you live, the office you work in, as soon as you step inside, the reception drops and the speed of the wireless broadband slows down and all of a sudden, your mobile phone becomes a brick!
What causes loss of coverage?
Well, there are many things that affect coverage the first would be line of site or proximity to a cell tower. Hills, valleys, large object such as buildings can make coverage a real challenge, also large masses of above ground water can create a barrier between you and the tower that is impenetrable. Some buildings are so well made that the mobile coverage can’t seem to get in, and in cities or densely populated areas these issues can be magnified.
What can I do about poor coverage?
Luckily there are a few answers to this! Firstly, the phone you use matters…. With Telstra, there is a grading system for mobile phones. these range from “A” which is for metro zones (you live virtually on or next to a tower!) through to “C” and “Blue Tick” phones.
Blue tick phones are built to get the best possible coverage where ever you are. they have better antenna packages and they have had more money spent on the components that deliver a stronger signal, they also dedicate a little more battery power to the task when coverage is poor and therefore can at times use a battery faster than when you are in the city for example. This is the way most people have overcome coverage.
When this does not work, a product called Cel-Fi has been developed to work specifically with Telstra’s 3G / NextG networks to deliver superior coverage and optimise data speeds when you have an office or home where coverage is a struggle in house. Cel-Fi is a setup consisting of two units that work to get you firstly a good signal, then lock it in!
