What phone system does it work with?
The B179 is the SIP model in the Avaya B100 range. It registers as a SIP endpoint, is listed by Avaya as compatible with both Avaya Aura and Avaya IP Office, integrates with the Avaya Aura platform, and works with third-party SIP networks — including CloudPhone (Bicom), 3CX and Grandstream UCM. It is not a Microsoft Teams-certified device. Web-based configuration lets you import and export contacts and settings, which matters when deploying several rooms.

The PA output and expansion microphones make it the right pick for a long boardroom table where a single-unit phone would leave people at the far end unheard. For a general all-IP site with no Avaya estate, the Yealink CP965 is the more current comparison on both price and platform age.
What’s in the box, warranty and AU compliance
Conference unit and Ethernet cable. The AC adapter, expansion microphones, PA interface box, SD memory card and wall-mounting bracket are all optional extras sold separately, and no power supply is required if the room has PoE. Sold, provisioned and supported in Australia by Com2 Communications (1300 887 495, Milton QLD). Any mains adapter supplied ships with an AU plug and carries the RCM mark; Avaya specifies the transformer as a 100–240V AC unit. Emergency calling: this device depends on power and an internet connection. If either fails it cannot make calls, including calls to 000, and it does not pass a fixed street address to emergency services the way a copper line does. Keep an alternative means of calling 000 in the room.
How does it compare to the nearest model?
Against the Yealink CP965: the CP965 is the newer design, with a 13-microphone array, DECT wireless expansion microphones rather than cabled ones, and current security support including TLS 1.3. The B179 makes sense when the customer is standardised on Avaya and wants the endpoint to match the platform; the CP965 is generally the better technical answer for a new fit-out.
