What phone system does it work with?

An open-SIP conference phone that registers to any standards-based platform — CloudPhone (Bicom), 3CX, Grandstream UCM and Asterisk-based systems. It also works as an audio device for hybrid meetings: connect a laptop by USB or a mobile by Bluetooth and the room’s microphones and speaker serve the Teams, Zoom or Webex meeting running on that device. That is different from being a Teams-certified phone. Yealink does produce native Teams editions of some conference phones — the CP965 Teams Edition, for example — so talk to Com2 about the right SKU if native Teams sign-in is the requirement rather than BYOD.

Ethernet with PoE (802.3af, Class 3), so a single cable to the table does both power and network. Built-in dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4/5GHz, 802.11a/b/g/n) is also available, so the phone can register over wireless where there is no data point at the table. Bluetooth 4.2 and USB*-C* for connecting mobiles and laptops (BYOD hybrid meetings). Optional CPN10 PSTN box adds an analogue line and enables a 3-way local conference — useful where a room needs a fallback that does not depend on the data network. Note that the phone has a single USB-C port, so the CPN10 and a BYOD laptop share the same connection and cannot both be attached at once. An optional CPW25 Bluetooth expansion microphone adds roughly 3 metres of extra pickup, with support for one unit.

Published pickup is 20 feet (6 metres) with 360-degree omnidirectional coverage, from a 7-microphone array: six for voice pickup and one dedicated to noise cancellation. A 56mm 5W loudspeaker rated 100–20,000 Hz at a 94 dB peak at 0.5 m. Five-way conference calling, with a local 3-way PSTN conference available via the CPN10. Wideband and super-wideband codec support including G.722 and G.722.1C. Local phonebook up to 1,000 entries with XML and LDAP remote directory support. TLS 1.3 in current firmware, with SRTP, AES-256 configuration file encryption, secure boot and WPA2/WPA3. Runs Linux rather than Android. Dimensions 285 x 289.5 x 59.1 mm.

Small to medium meeting rooms — huddle rooms, four-to-eight-person meeting rooms, and private executive offices. The 6-metre pickup is the practical limit: past that, people at the far end of the table get quieter, and the CP965 with its wireless expansion microphones is the right step up. The USB and Bluetooth inputs make it a good fit for organisations that hold most meetings in Teams or Zoom but want proper room audio rather than a laptop speaker.

CPN10 PSTN box and CPW25 expansion microphone are separate purchases. Any mains adapter supplied ships with an AU plug and carries the RCM mark. Emergency calling: this device depends on power and an internet connection. If either fails, it cannot make calls, including calls to 000, and it does not pass a fixed street address to emergency services the way a copper line does. Where a CPN10 is fitted with a working analogue line, calls over that line follow the arrangements of that service instead — but the phone still needs mains or PoE power to operate at all, so it will not work in a power failure either way. Keep an alternative means of calling 000 in the room.

Against the CP965: the CP925 has a much larger microphone array, louder output, and DECT wireless expansion microphones that add 10 metres each — that is a genuinely different class of room. The CP965 also runs Android with a 5-inch screen, where the CP925 is a Linux device with a 4-inch screen. Against the CP935W: very similar audio — the same 6-metre, 360-degree pickup and 5-way conferencing — though the CP935W’s array is six microphones without the CP925’s separate noise-cancellation microphone. The difference is deployment: the CP935W runs on a built-in 7800mAh battery and registers over Wi-Fi, or over DECT through a W70B base station bought separately, so it suits rooms with no cabling to the table. Choose the CP925 for a cabled room up to about eight people.
