What phone system does it work with?

Yealink’s flagship SIP conference phone. It registers to any standards-based platform — CloudPhone (Bicom), 3CX, Grandstream UCM and Asterisk-based systems — and is widely deployed in Microsoft and Zoom video conference room solutions as the room audio device. Confirm the exact SKU with Com2 if a native Teams or Zoom edition is required, as certification is model and version specific.

Ethernet with PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at, Class 4) — note this is a step up from the 802.3af the CP925 uses, so the room’s switch needs to support it; power draw runs 7.3W to 20W. Dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4/5GHz, 802.11a/b/g/n) and Bluetooth 4.2 are also built in. Optional CPW65 DECT wireless expansion microphones each add roughly 10 metres of pickup with no cable across the table — the main practical advantage over cabled expansion microphones — with up to two supported per phone, and a connection distance of up to 30 metres between microphone and phone. Optional CPN10 PSTN box adds an analogue line and a 3-way local conference. The phone has separate USB-A and USB-C ports, so the CPN10 and a BYOD laptop can both be connected at once. Up to four CP965 units can be linked in a star configuration — one master and three slaves on a wired network — for synchronised pickup and playback down a long table, with two expansion microphones on each. Current firmware supports TLS 1.3.

Medium to large boardrooms — the long table, the twelve-plus attendee room, the executive boardroom where audio quality is the point. The combination of the 13-microphone array and CPW65 wireless expansion microphones is what separates it from the CP925: you can cover a room properly without running cable down the middle of a boardroom table. For a room that still outruns one phone and two microphones, up to four CP965 units can be star-connected over the wired network to work as a single system. Also the right choice for rooms doing hybrid video where the room audio must hold up against a laptop-based alternative.

Conference phone, 7.5 metre CAT5E Ethernet cable, mounting screw and screwdriver, and quick start guide. No power adapter is supplied — the phone is powered by PoE, and the optional YLPOE30 PoE adapter must be quoted separately where the room has no PoE switch. CPW65 wireless expansion microphones and the CPN10 PSTN box are separate purchases and should be quoted with the phone for any room over about eight people. Emergency calling: this device depends on power and an internet connection. If either fails, it cannot make calls, including calls to 000, and it does not pass a fixed street address to emergency services the way a copper line does. Keep an alternative means of calling 000 in the room.

Against the CP925: a genuinely different class — 13 microphones against 7, ten-way conferencing against five, two DECT wireless expansion microphones against one Bluetooth microphone, separate USB-A and USB-C ports against a single shared USB-C, a 5-inch Android interface against a 4-inch Linux one, and star connection of up to four units. The loudspeaker is the same 56mm 5W driver in both, so the gain is in pickup and scale rather than volume. The CP925 covers about 6 metres and suits up to roughly eight people; the CP965 with CPW65 microphones covers a full boardroom. Against the Avaya B179: the CP965 is the newer platform with current security support — TLS 1.3, SRTP, secure boot and WPA2/WPA3 — and wireless expansion, and is usually the better technical answer unless the customer is standardised on Avaya.
